Dr.K.G.Balakrishnan took his B.Sc. degree in Physics from University of Kerala in 1966, M.Sc. in Electronnics from BITS Pilani in 1968,DIIT in Solid State Electronics from IIT Delhi in 1969, Ph.D in Photo-electrets from IIT Delhi in 1973, Post-doctoral Research in Liquid crystal Displays from Osaka University, Japan in 1977, and LLB from University of Kerala in 1983. He has 11 National Research Publication, 8 International Research Publication and 8 Indian Patents.The area of specialisation are Polarization in Dieletrics, Liquid Crystal Displays, Controle Systems, Electronic Instrumentation and VLSI Design. He was the Director of IHRD and established Engineering Colleges at Chengannur, Kallooppara, Poonjar and Karunagappally, Applied Science Colleges at Mallappally, Thodupuzha, Cheemeni Thalipparampa, Koothuparampu and Kaduthuruthi, and Polytechnic Colleges at Poonjar and Kalyassery. He also held the post of Director of CAPE and established an Engineering College at Alappuzha and was the key person behind securing permanent recognition for the Co-operative Medical College, Kochi.
